The Donna Hopkins Band - 6 PM
Donna Hopkins is the real deal. Born and raised on a North Alabama farm, Donna witnessed life in the South first hand, channeling it into the soulful music that she creates and performs. Music runs in her family; her mother performed rock and roll in go-go boots and mini-skirts and her grandfather was a fine bluegrass musician in his own right. Following in their footsteps, Donna is a consummate seasoned performer with many songs and performances under her belt. Georgia Music Magazine calls Donna Hopkins a "genuine triple threat" due to her prowess as a singer, songwriter and guitarist.

Deva Mahal - 7:45 PM
Born with blues in her blood, Deva Mahal is a genre-defying artist, powerhouse vocalist, and astute songwriter. Allowing her blues roots to blossom from the fertile soil of modern R&B, indie-pop, soul, rock, and gospel, her undeniable vocal talent never ceases to blow audiences away. Her star continues to rise with "Run Deep," her aptly-named debut album, produced by Scott Jacoby. The New York Times calls her music "hand-clapping, piano-pounding, call-and-response buildup." Her energy and enthusiasm breathe wild life into her songs with a knockout voice that combines pulse pounding soul with a decidedly modern edge. Grammy.com named her "#1 Best New Bands at SXSW 2018."

Maria Muldaur - 9:30 PM
Maria Muldaur is an American blues singer who was part of the early 1960s music revolution. She recorded the 1973 hit song "Midnight at the Oasis," which garnered several Grammy nominations and enshrined her forever in the hearts of Baby Boomers everywhere. In the 40 years since, "Midnight at the Oasis," Maria has toured extensively worldwide and has recorded 40 solo albums covering all kinds of American Roots Music, including Gospel, R & B, Jazz, and Big Band - not to mention several award-winning children's albums. Her latest release, "DON'T YOU FEEL MY LEG - The Naughty Bawdy Blues of Blue Barker," was nominated for the Grammy for Best Traditional Blues Album. Hailing from the Bronx, Henriquez is a rare virtuoso in both jazz and Afro-Cuban traditions, and he has performed with greats like Tito Puente, Eddie Palmieri, and Celia Cruz since the age of 14. Vito, Tony Lelo and 2E are the trio of North Carolinians known as The Hamiltones. They started as individuals, separately carrying family traditions of making music from the soul. Their loved ones watched and cheered on as the young men left their hometowns in search of the bright lights and big stages. Fate would have them all cross paths when a mutual friend introduced them to Grammy winning soul crooner Anthony Hamilton. Hamilton brought the group on as background vocalists, and from there The Hamiltones were born. Things moved fast and before long the group was traveling the world, dazzling audiences from Africa to Australia. One day during rehearsal, a band member recorded The Hamiltones joking around, they were putting an old school spin on a popular rap song. No one though much of it, but later that day the clip was uploaded to Facebook where it reached nearly a million views in under 24 hours. The Hamiltones are preparing to release new music, drop new content and hit the road harder than even in 2019.

Curt Keyz featuring Jason Jet & Greg Cox

Location: Charlotte SHOUT! Soul Stage

Time: 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Curt Keyz: When Curtis Hayes aka Curt Keyz walks on stage, it's just him, his instrument and his audience. A certain tunnel vision takes over where nothing else matters. Studio sessions are focused and full of honed-in musicality-craftsmanship fueled by creativity. His attention to detail comes from a place of passion and love for what he does. Hearing Curtis play piano, it's hard to believe he's self-taught. Though he played drums and has been singing since he was a toddler-even traveling and playing in a family quartet group-it wasn't until high school that he got serious about the keys. "I was a late bloomer," he says. "I'd always admired the piano and keyboard instruments so, I dabbled in arranging music because of modern hip-hop and jazz. I studied PJ Morton , Maze, Steely Dan George Duke and Robert Glasper Experiment. When asked what music means to him, Curtis says "everything. I believe that gift of music bridges the gaps between nationalities and ethnicities-between any socioeconomic status and any demographic. Music is what makes the world go round."

Jason Jet: Born in Keflavic, Iceland and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina, Jason JetPlane has developed a style like no other. Blessed with a brilliant tenor voice, astounding production prowess and gripping lyricism, this sensuous singer/songwriter has an almost trancelike effect on anyone who listens. JetPlane has already won numerous awards, including a New York Urban Music Explosion award as well as Best R&B New Artist at the Carolina Music Awards. Considered by many industry insiders to be the next to watch, Jason JetPlane is flying high with his upcoming sophomore release. "The Great Escape".

Bleachers

Bleachers

Location: Atrium Health Main Stage at Romare Bearden Park
Cost: $35 / Click Here to Purchase Tickets
Time: Concert starts at 5:00 and Bleachers will take the stage at 9:00 pm

After building a devoted fan-base through a year and a half of non-stop touring behind his band Bleachers' well-received debut album Strange Desire, Jack Antonoff was spending time in studios in Los Angeles and Atlanta spit-balling ideas for a second album when he had a powerful realization. It struck him, as he was sitting in hip-hop producers Organized Noize's studio in Atlanta, that the records that meant so much to him growing up- are rooted in a specific place. "They came from somewhere!" he says excitedly. "There's an energy there and the artist is telling a story of how they were raised. It's a sound from a city, and they're planting a flag in that city and saying, 'This is what it's like to live here.'"
The New Jersey-born, New York-based Antonoff knew he needed to go home to the East Coast and build a studio. "It's like you have to go sit in your bedroom and hear the music on the speakers you heard Graceland on the first time," he says. "You gotta listen through the speakers you heard Smashing Pumpkins on the radio the first time. I had to get back to that space. So I did. I grabbed all this shit from my childhood bedroom in New Jersey and built a studio in my apartment in New York and I literally didn't leave it. I thought, 'This album is going to sound like New York and New Jersey and the actual space I grew up in, in the most specific way. And that, to me, is the most I can offer."
It was there in that room - surrounded by posters and flyers from punk shows he saw as a kid and his old baseball trophies and Star Wars figurines - that Antonoff created the epic, synth-driven anthems that appear on Bleachers' second album entitled Gone Now, which is set for release on June 2, 2017. As a result, the album sounds like "the way the space looks," he says. "It sounds like someone alone in their room, wrestling with their thoughts. It sounds like someone trying to create something very direct and simple amongst the chaos."
Critics praised Strange Desire's modern nostalgia and remarked that the '80s-influenced songs could have served as a soundtrack to a never-made high-school-themed John Hughes film. On that album, Antonoff set emotional meditations on anxiety, depression, loss and picking yourself up after a tragedy (in his case, the death of his younger sister from a brain tumor when Antonoff was 18 and his struggled with a panic disorder in the aftermath) against a backdrop of earworm melodies and shouty choruses on songs like the gold-certified "I Wanna Get Better" (which topped Billboard's Alternative chart) and "Rollercoaster."
"The songs were about growing up and still sort of existing in the past," Antonoff says. "The crux of the new album is my desperately trying to find a way to become some version of an adult, and not just be a giant child. I thought a lot about things like, 'Where do I want to go from here? Do I want to be a person who has this extremely vibrant relationship with their art, but their life suffers in a million other places? Where do I want to go with my life?'"
