CREATOR – International Interactive Art: LAPS

Olivier is a renowned designer, as well as a versatile and prolific artist whose work spans theatre, television, opera, circus, and dance. His inspired set designs always serve the unique aesthetics of a given artform. He is called upon for his creative vision and professional integrity.

“(The creation of LAPS) got me thinking about the idea of possessing time—controlling time. When you turn over an hourglass, you are setting the point when time starts to run, and taking charge of it. There is also something contemplative about watching time run out. So I created a giant hourglass that visitors can work for themselves, so that as soon as they turn it over, they are holding time in their hands.

“I hope that the people who spin these giant hourglasses will enjoy it as much as we enjoyed developing LAPS. I hope that, for the moment of a rotation, the public will take control of the time that is passing.”
