Easter Egg: “And She Grew”
And She Grew celebrates curiosity as a powerful seed for growth. Covered in sculpted vines, textured flowers, and hand-painted plants, it represents the beauty that blossoms when we stay curious about the world around us. The design invites people to look closer and imagine the stories each plant tells—encouraging discovery through art. Created by a 16-year-old Black artist who found her own voice through nature and creativity, this sculpture uses accessible design including cardboard, clay and wire to welcome everyone into its world. Inspired by Charlotte’s diversity and growth, this egg is both a personal reflection and a public invitation to stay curious.
Ava Dias is a 15‑year‑old Black artist originally from Texas and now based in Charlotte. Since moving two years ago, she has used art as a powerful way to express her identity, emotions, and love for nature. Her work explores themes of curiosity, growth, and representation, creating pieces that reflect her lived experiences and celebrate the beauty of being seen and heard as a young Black artist.
